Spotting Scams
You’ve decided to really take the plunge and get into alternative dating websites, and that’s really for the best. There are so many amazing alt ladies out there that there’s really no use in passing them up, especially not when they’re into the exact same stuff that you are.
Unfortunately, it isn’t always the safest out there.
The best alternative dating sites are the ones that we recommend that you hop on, and they’re usually safe, scam free, and a lot of fun. Unfortunately, there are still some low-risk scammers floating around on sites like these. They aren’t always easy to spot, and it can be extremely annoying to try and work these kinds of scammers, even if they aren’t exactly going to steal your money right off the bat.
The worst thing about scammers is that even if they aren’t always that dangerous, they can be a really big bump in the road when it comes to enjoying your dating experience. When you compare alternative dating sites, try to take care and find ones that are proven to be active, full of real women, and not covered in padded profiles that will just slow your search down.
Online dating should be enjoyable, not a struggle.
That’s why we’ve taken to compile our own list of alternative dating site reviews, but that doesn’t mean that our favorite site are infallible. No matter what site you pop on, there’s still a chance that there are some scammers lurking about, and it’s all a matter of learning how to better avoid them.
One of the most common scams that we see even on our favorite dating websites is the old cam girl scam. These are women that pay to post their profile on the website, and when you message them, you’ll just end up with them trying to shove you in the direction of their cam site. That’s not what you came to a dating site for, and so you should never click on any links that ‘women’ send you. They might not even end up being women at all, but rather, scambots that are just trying to sling out links to churn up as many clicks as they can.
All scammers are the same.
At the end of the day, you need to realize that while every site might have scammers, they’re all the same. Once you can pick them out, you’ll end up being to avoid all of them–because they just don’t change, or get smarter.
The key to dealing with scammers is being able to outsmart them. That’s why if you ever go to sign up for a site that looks less than sketchy, do a bit of research first. There’s a good chance we’ve even done a review on it.
The reason for this is that a lot of the sketchier online dating sites have hidden ways of stealing your credit card information, or otherwise selling it out to different companies. That’s not always the case, but if you have any reservations, always read a site’s terms and conditions to make sure you’re comfortable with giving them your credit card info.
Scammers are usually after your credit card information.
That’s why you always need to be careful when you’re on any dating website. If you start chatting with a girl and they try to bug you for information about your profile or your personal life…that might be a red flag. These scammers will also try and pose as site administrators in order to get into your personal accounts and steal your information.
The general rule of thumb is to make sure that you simply never hand out your personal information on any website. It doesn’t matter how hot you think the woman you’re talking to is; if she starts asking for your personal information–especially your credit card info–that’s a red flag.
Sometimes, the scams aren’t so obvious.
When you logon to a dating site, you’ll often see what we call fake profiles. While these fakes can usually be pretty obvious–they might even be ripped off porn star pictures, or pictures with user names attached that constantly change–that isn’t always the case.
Fake profiles can come in all shapes and sizes. They might even include links or ads to other sites that have absolutely nothing to do with alternative dating sites or reviews related to them.
These are the kinds of profiles that are the most dangerous, as they might redirect you to sites or content that is not only annoying, but actually harmful to your computer. These phishing sites will often be something your browser alerts you of, but you can’t always depend on that.
Tread with caution and you’ll be rewarded.
We’re not saying that you should always be paranoid on dating sites. What we’re saying is that by exercising the same amount of caution that you would in real life, you will have a much easier, safer time when you’re attempting to get into the world of online dating.
We know that at times it might be stressful to think about scam artists lurking around every corner…but honestly, that’s rarely the case. So long as you know how to spot a fake profile or avoid ‘women’ that outright try to steal your credit card information, you will probably be just fine.
